Purpose

Cougar Cookers was formed to support the University of Houston and the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.

The Cougar Cookers is a privately sponsored organization led by alumni and friends of the University of Houston. We participate in the Rodeo Cook-Off to show our appreciation for the support that is given to higher education by the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. Participation in this event also provides a wonderful opportunity to showcase the University of Houston's own Texas style festival, Frontier Fiesta.

Cougar Cookers awards a one-year scholarship in the amount of $1500 ($750/semester). The award will be made to a student leader who has a proven commitment of leadership to the Frontier Fiesta Association and continues to maintain active involvement with Frontier Fiesta during their receipt of the award.

The Cougar Cookers have created a Permanent Endowment Fund for general scholastic purposes at the University.

The Cougar Cookers also contributes to Cougar Pride. Cougar Pride provides scholastic funding for the University's student athletes.

The Cougar Cookers' participation in the Cook-Off has many far reaching benefits for the University of Houston and its students. Participation in the Cook-Off not only gives the University a prestigious presence in the city's largest event but also gives a more tangible benefit to prospective UH students. Each year hundreds of University of Houston students receive a total of nearly $200,000 in scholarship money from the Rodeo. By participating in the Cook-Off, we can demonstrate our appreciation for this support. This event also provides a perfect opportunity to show our support for our own premier event and Cook-Off at the University of Houston -- Frontier Fiesta.
